Easy fixes for a parched scalp...

At home remedies to moisturise the scalp and add comfort

  1. Cleanse and condition with sulphate free formulas

Sulfates are responsible for giving shampoos an especially ‘sudsy’ lather, but also tend to be included in harsher products that can strip the hair of its natural oils. Look for scalp specific shampoos and conditioners such as those including Pyrithione zinc, an antibacterial and antifungal agent that has been recommended for those with dandruff, dry or oily scalps.

  1. Exfoliate gently with astringent ingredients

Apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil are naturally astringent ingredients that can help to remove any build-up of dead skin cells. Take care not to exfoliate too often as this can affect the pH balance of your scalp and avoid altogether if you suffer from eczema or psoriasis, as this may worsen any inflammation.

  1. Minimalise your hair care routine

Overloading too many products on your scalp can unbalance the pH of your hair as well as causing product build-up. Simply does it is the best motto for those with a problematic scalp and it pays to do your research by finding out the ingredients of the products that do make it into your repertoire. Hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and urea or soothing ones like aloe vera or jojoba oil are often recommended for those with a dry scalp whilst alcohol-based formulas should be a no-no.
